Is it possible to turn to laser surgery also for cataracts?

  FAQs ^

Laser surgery intervenes not only in the correction of myopia and other visual defects, but also for cataracts where the crystalline lens afflicted by cataract is removed. The instrument used is called the Phacolaser.

The Phacolaser probe which is introduced through a small incision, melts, emulsifies and sucks the crystalline lens affected by cataract. Immediately after, an artificial lens is introduced through the same incision; first it is folded into two, and once in the right position returns to its normal form.

The operation is performed in the ambulatory, does not require hospitalization and is less traumatic than phacoemulsification through ultrasounds.

Laser surgery is indicated for cataracts in their initial phases.
